Völkl
Tour 10 VE MP |
Völkl's V-Engine line of racquets now includes a Mid-plus
version of the Tour 10 V-Engine. This racquet is more powerful
than its 93 sq in sibling and slightly more powerful than
the non V-Engine Tour 10. The increase in power can be attributed
to the 3/8 inch longer main strings when compared to the non
V-Engined Tour 10. We also felt that the sweetspot in the
VE 10 MP is more generous and slightly higher. Our static
test indicated that the VE is about 8% more powerful than
the Tour 10 Mid-plus.
It
provides a "classic" feel, even if the looks aren't
classic. Even with the additional power this is a control-oriented
racquet that should satisfy all but the diehard purists. The
racquet possesses many of the characteristics of a traditional
players frame, 12 oz strung weright, head-light balance, medium
stiff flex, and thin beam.
Völkl's
Sensor Tour Handle effectively dampens vibration without sacrificing
much of the feel and touch usually associated with this type
of racquet.
The
10 MP offers lots of feel, control, and spin potential. Ground
strokes are solid and predictable as are the volleys. Like
most player oriented racquets this one requires good technique
couple with longer faster strokes to take advantage of this
racquet.
The
Tour 10 V-Engine MP is a good choice for players who place
an emphasis on control without sacrificing power
and forgiveness.

Technologies |
Catapult
Technology: Völkl's patented spring system.
Catapult technology is based around springs constructed of
Lite-Carbon and High Modulus Graphite that are freely mounted
onto the walls of the frame. When the ball hits the string
bed the spring compresses or “loads” the catapult, creating
a deeper string bed pocket. This increases the time the ball
stays on the strings. As the spring resets, the contact time
is shortened delivering more power. The overall contact time
between the ball and the strings remains the same what Völkl
has been able to accomplish is to change the contact time
between the Control and Power Phases. |
| Big
Grommet Technology: Funnel-shaped grommets integrated
into the frame increase the size of the sweetspot resulting
in maximum power with unsurpassed forgiveness. Völkl has
three versions of Big Grommets. Power Big Grommets which allow
a 15° range of string travel, Classic Big Grommets allow
a 10° range of string travel, and Control Big Grommets which
has a 7° range of string travel. |
| 3-D
Power Max Frame: Increases stiffness along the
entire length of the racquet. The cross-section shape varies
along the racquet beam, yet the circumference of the cross-section
remains constant. This keeps the racquet light weight and maneuverable
without sacrificing torsional stability. The rectangular cross-section
at the head increases stiffness and consequently adds power.
The kidney-shaped central cross-section (3-9 o'clock) provides
a deeper string pocket, increasing the feeling for the ball.
The oval cross-section in the throat / shaft increases torsional
stability. |
Sensor
Handle Tour System: A vibration suppression
system that utilizes a two part racquet shaft and TecnoGel™
provides ideal shock dampening. EVA, surrounds the shaft,
offering superior vibration dampening without sacrificing
touch or racquet “feedback.” |
Dynamic
Power Control Pattern (PCP): Variable string
pattern, more dense in the racquet's sweetspot ensures more
control and string durability, while the string pattern is
more open outside the sweetspot providing more power and comfort
on off-center shots. |
Pure
Fiber Technology: A
new technology which results in more fibers and less resin
in the racquet. This heat-activated molding process optimizes
the amount of resin each graphite fiber can absorb. The result
is a sheet of graphite that has 10% more fibers with less
resin and is more uniform and consistent in all aspects resulting
in more stability, performance, and durability. |
Vibration
Control Handle: VCH features an Ethyl Vinyl
Acetate (EVA) sheath surrounding the racquet shaft, located
beneath the pallet. This sheath is designed for optimum vibration
dampening which provide additional protection for the arm.
|
Soft
Butt Cap: A soft pliable polymer is used instead
on the usual hard plastic to form the cap that is placed at
the bottom of the handle. These soft butt-caps compliment
Völkl's Sensor Handle System by further absorbing unwanted
shock and vibration while still allowing racquet “feedback."
|
| Energy
Profile: The redesigned throat-bridge area and
racquet handle form a Y-shape increasing the racquets stability.
As a result, maximum energy is returned to the ball even on
off-center hits. |
| Precise
Frame: The classic kidney bean shaped cross-section
coupled with innovative materials provides maximum precision
with excellent touch. The Precise Frame offers an increased
ball-string contact time for more control. |
